MET a complete exercise, diet and stress management mobile app for busy technocrats

A mobile app aimed to enhance total well-being of fitness enthusiasts. With so many fitness and health options accessible, rethinking and providing  significant improvements based on user research to exercise, nutrition, health, and stress management solutions was priority.

My role

Research, User interface design, Design systems, Prototyping, Illustration & UX writing.

🛠️
Tools

Figma, Orignami studio, Google meet, Excel, Google docs, Kubios App (hardware).

Duration

Research 2 weeks
Design, prototyping and handoff 8 weeks.

The Challenge:

“Despite the fact that current solutions have a lot to offer, certain crucial features  and pressing problems to users are not addressed.”

Today, standards features like exercise routines, videos and instructions, meals plans, sometimes walking steps and sleeping tracking are offered.

But a lot of time these features (solutions) have not been proven as effective in achieving the users goals, leading to motivated individuals losing interest in or giving up on accomplishing their fitness objectives .

Routine quickly becomes boring, dull repetitions with no continual progression, nothing exciting beyond initial interest.
Zero stress management from exercise or health status. NO feedback loop, just a one sided vague weight gain and loss metric.
Trouble following the fitness routine when recommendations are not personalised, and there is nothing unique.
Diet recommendations are not flexible and users input are not editable or personalised and sometimes users can’t see ahead of time.

How possibly, can we make
fitness and exercise fun
while making sure users achieve
their goals more efficiently.

Qualitative User Research

After secondary research and speaking to stake holders, I conducted a qualitative interview to understand potential users perspective to the present solutions and how it can be improved, what exactly are their pain points. how they think those paint point have affected their health and fitness journey.

“I'm a Nike club run and Google fit user, I've tested others. but I'm sticking to both because the Nike app provides me with a group and sharing feature, Google fit  provides me daily goals and what I've done to achieve it. but a lot of things are still missing like a reminder to drink water or a  feature that can make recommendations on how to reduce stress and health information.”

Tested several app for fitness and weight loss. All looks the same, looking for you to pay monthly subscription without delivering any real value upfront. Sometimes I give things a shot and after sometimes I just uninstall nothing unique all just repetitive exercise that are not personalize, also the nutrition aspect is not custom to my local foods.

Having something that can guide your exercise routine, recommend diet base on your selection and taste, measure your health status and basic health parameters will be my dream fitness app. while been personalize, with a good reminder

Reminders

Providing users the ability to create and control reminders are very important, in app. Also reminding users to drink water can be a big differentiator.

Ease and simplicity

Simplicity and ease of use is also important as well as the group sharing features of users achievements with friends.

Flexibility & personalisation

Personalisation of user recommendations are important from exercise, nutrition to basic health parameters, and stress management

Value before paywalls

Providing good features upfront before upselling the user (*ensures user retentions*)

1

Personalising diets with reminders.

Once the user makes editable selections of their typical preferred food, fruits and dishes, into our database, will be making future recommendations based on that.

We also offer users weekly recommendations for planning shopping and groceries, along with the ability to set cooking reminders.

2

Adding reminder to Drink water

While user are setting up their nutrition schedule, we also  give the users to add a reminder to drink water daily.

This will be not be scheduled by the users, we are building algorithms to make the recommendations at random through the day.

3

Ability to contact a professional if need be straightaway

If need be providing the user the ability to contact professionals straightaway might seems scary, but we perfected it, by giving user a variations to select from and book a session.

4

Changing exercise intensity and type with time

To avoid repetition and improve efficiency and growth, the type of exercise will be changed and the intensity move from level one to two if user completes 65% - 70% of it recommended exercise the from month to month

Key Takeaways

1. Unification is really important

people want to have everything some where synchronized where the do their daily exercise measure, basic health status and take health tips, and eat clean.

2. Better UI is better UX

The years of bad interfaces on MVPs are gone, Having a clean aesthetically and easy to use interfaces are more welcoming and expected

3. Personalisation

GenZs are really taking fitness serious and making sure there is personalised feed back loop is really important for better user experience.

4. Research

Some things we think are not really important like drinking water really stood out during the research, paying more attentions to what the users need is more important
